Sarasota Twin Newborn Session | Summer & Skye’s In-Home Portraits

This Sarasota Twin Newborn Session with Anna and Nick’s identical twin girls, Summer and Skye, was especially meaningful to photograph.

Photographing twins is meaningful to me personally (my dad is an identical twin!), and documenting these beautiful moments from one of their first days at home for their family made this session one I’ll remember.

The Meaning Behind Summer & Skye’s Names

After the session, Anna shared the story behind her daughters’ names, and it added even more depth to these portraits.

As a little girl, she met a snorkeling guide in Florida named Skye and never forgot it. The name stayed with her for years, tied to memories of sunshine and childhood wonder.

When she later found out she was expecting identical twin girls, she knew one would be Skye. Wanting both names to begin with the same letter and flow beautifully together, she chose Summer – her favorite season and a name filled with happy memories.

Summer and Skye.

Now living in Florida, where it feels like summer most of the year, their names feel especially fitting.

Born at 32 Weeks | A Sarasota Twin Newborn Session Story

Summer and Skye arrived at 32 weeks and 2 days and spent four weeks in the NICU before coming home.

Anna describes her girls as fighters. One of the moments she remembers most clearly is holding both of them in her arms at the same time when they were three weeks old, something she had been waiting for during those early weeks.

Their arrival also marked an amazing and unexpected change in Anna’s own health. For more than two years prior, she had experienced a benign heart arrhythmia. After her daughters were born, her heart palpitations suddenly stopped.

Motherhood is miraculous in more ways than we expect.

Research has shown that fetal cells can remain in a mother’s body for years, sometimes migrating to areas of injury. For Anna, the timing felt deeply meaningful.

“My daughters came into my life for more reasons than one.”

A Surprise Worth Shouting

Anna had a perfect 3D ultrasound image and surprised (and shocked!) her family and friends by asking them to guess what they were looking at.
It took a minute, so she prompted them: “What do you see??”
And that’s when it clicked: “TWINS?!”
(Some people got it faster than others – lol!)

Sweet Cravings to Sleepless Nights

During pregnancy, Anna craved Mango Häagen-Dazs ice cream, Nerds gummy clusters, and Sprite – anything sweet.
Now that Summer and Skye are here, that sweetness has simply taken a different form. From double giggles and tiny stretches, to the everyday moments that fill their home.

“Babies are SOOO funny,” Anna shared. “Their sneezes, their toots, their stretches, their yawns. Especially with twins when they copy each other or do the exact same thing at the exact same time.”

Sleep may be minimal, but Anna says every part of motherhood is worth it.

“The most beautiful part is the love. Their love for me and my love for them is a love I’ve never felt before and didn’t know existed. Our love is eternal.”

Family and friends say the girls look just like their daddy, but with Anna’s eyes.

A Sarasota Twin Newborn Session at Home

Photographing Summer and Skye in their own home added a layer of comfort to this Sarasota Twin Newborn Session that simply can’t be replicated in a studio.

“Having the photoshoot in our home was wonderful,” Anna shared. “We felt so comfortable as we watched the moment freeze in time.”

In-home sessions allow families to stay relaxed, settle into their own rhythm, and move at a pace that works for them – especially important after a NICU stay. With twins, that flexibility matters even more.

Anna described the experience as feeling like her first time playing dress-up with her “little mini-me’s.” One day, she looks forward to showing her daughters these images and sharing the full story of their arrival.

Summer and Skye’s beginning wasn’t simple – but it is one marked by resilience and deep love♥. It was an honor to document this chapter for their family and preserve these early days at home.
